How to Choose the Right Zebra Label Material

Selecting the appropriate label or tag depends on environmental conditions, surface type, expected lifespan, and printing technology. Consider the following criteria:

Surface material & texture: cardboard, plastic, steel, glass, or rubber tyres require specific adhesive formulations.
Service temperature & environment: room temperature, deep freeze (-80°C), cryogenic storage (-196°C), or high heat (+150°C to +537°C).
Application temperature: note the ambient temperature when applying the label (e.g., all-temp adhesives apply down to -29°C).
Resistance needs: moisture, chemicals, oil, abrasion, outdoor UV exposure, or sterilization cycles.
Printing technology: Direct Thermal (DT) for short-term shipping/food vs. Thermal Transfer (TT) with ribbon for long-term permanence.
Adhesive removability: permanent bond, residue-free clean removal, or water dissolvable.
Security & tampering: tamper-evident void or destructible face stocks for warranty seals and asset tagging.
Practical Recommendation

We always recommend testing sample rolls under actual operational conditions before placing large volume orders. Prompt supplies test rolls upon request.

FAQ About Zebra Supplies & Labels

Direct Thermal (DT) labels print without a ribbon using heat-sensitive paper, ideal for short-to-medium term applications such as shipping and warehousing. Thermal Transfer (TT) labels use an ink ribbon, providing long-lasting durability against sunlight, moisture, abrasion, and harsh chemicals.

For frozen surfaces, we recommend materials with specialized all-temperature or freezer adhesives such as Z-Select 4000D / 4000T All-Temp (applies down to -29°C), 8000T Deep Freeze, or CryoCool 8100T (operating down to -196°C in liquid nitrogen).

Paper labels generally use Wax or Wax/Resin ribbons (e.g. 2300, 2100, 3200). Synthetic labels (polypropylene, polyester, polyimide) require Resin ribbons (e.g. 4800, 5095, 5100) for maximum chemical and scratch resistance.

Yes, Zebra offers Z-Perform 1000D Removable, Z-Select 4000T Removable, 8000T Ultra-Removable, and 8000D Dissolvable (water-soluble labels for reusable totes and food containers).

The Z-Supreme series (2100T, 3000T, 4000T) made from polyimide film withstands temperatures up to +537°C and aggressive soldering flux chemicals in PCB electronics manufacturing.

Yes, in addition to standard stock sizes (e.g. 100x150 mm, 50x30 mm, 102x76 mm), we provide custom die-cut dimensions and shapes tailored to your exact equipment specifications.
